Kilombero Sugar Company Limited is Tanzania’s largest sugar producer and an important contributor to the country’s economy and sugar self-sufficiency goals. The company is located in the Morogoro Region and operates two agricultural estates and sugar factories, Msolwa and Ruembe.
KSCL is primarily owned by Illovo Sugar Africa, which holds a 75% shareholding, while the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania owns the remaining 25%. Illovo Sugar Africa is a wholly owned subsidiary of Associated British Foods plc (ABF).
The company’s sugarcane estate covers approximately 26,000 hectares. About 55% of its sugarcane is cultivated on company-owned land, while approximately 45% is supplied by a network of around 8,000 smallholder farmers known as Kilombero Growers.
KSCL Products and Operations
KSCL produces direct-consumption brown sugar under the well-known Bwana Sukari brand. The sugar is available in different pack sizes, ranging from 150g to 50kg, serving both household and commercial consumers.
The company also operates a modern distillery that produces high-quality alcohol for Tanzania’s local beverage industry.
